Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2025
Pastyx is built with privacy in mind. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
Pastyx does not require you to create an account. When you create a paste, we store:
• The paste content (compressed in cloud storage)
• Optional metadata you provide: title, expiry time, whether a password or edit key is set (keys are stored as irreversible cryptographic hashes — we never store the raw values)
• A creation timestamp and view counter
We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information unless you explicitly include such data in your paste content.
2. Cookies & Local Storage
Pastyx uses only essential browser storage (e.g. your theme preference). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics scripts.
3. Paste Content
Paste content is stored in encrypted-at-rest cloud object storage. Metadata such as view counts and expiry is stored in database, also encrypted at rest.
Pastes with no expiry persist until manually deleted by the creator (via edit key) or removed for policy violations. Expired pastes are cleaned up automatically upon their next access.
4. Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Paste content is accessible by anyone who possesses the unique paste URL. Password-protected pastes require the correct password to view.
We may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
5. Security
Passwords and edit keys are hashed using PBKDF2-SHA256 before storage. We do not store raw passwords or keys. Use a strong, unique password or edit key for sensitive pastes.
6. Data Retention
Pastes are retained until they expire (as set by the creator) or are deleted by the creator using their edit key. We reserve the right to remove pastes that violate our Terms of Service at any time.
7. Children's Privacy
Pastyx is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of Pastyx after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
9. Contact
If you have questions about this policy, please reach out through the Pastyx GitHub repository or the contact information listed there.
